As human beings, we are constantly seeking happiness, and dare I say, elusive happiness. We seek it in sunsets, in the laughter of loved ones, and yes, even in that extra scoop of ice-cream. Happiness isn’t a permanent resident – just when we think we’ve caught it, it slips through our fingers like sand. And on we go again looking, just constantly looking…, eyes scanning the horizon for the next glimmer.

The happiness we yearn for often manifests in our lives. What we do not anticipate is the disruption to the status quo. The change will breed expected or unexpected chain reactions. We require grounded perspective to appreciate the ying and yang that comes with attaining said happiness.

Imagine life as a quilt—a patchwork of joy and sorrow, stitched together by fate. And yes, they’re as certain as taxes!

“Why can’t we just have the good stuff?” we grumble.

To whom much is given much is expected.

Bishop TD Jakes says, “Every blessing brings burden.”

“You pray for a car and are slapped with the burden of building a garage or having the expense of car insurance. You pray and get your dream job, but it is located hundreds of kilometers away from your family.”

Blessings and burdens are twin brothers.

Miracles and misery are married.

You cannot have one without the other. This is hard but true.

Happiness flits, suffering teaches, and we? We dance—sometimes clumsy, sometimes graceful. And the universe nods.

Keep seeking. Keep embracing.

And remember: the stars wink when you stumble.
